ViennaTysons Regional Chamber of Commerce officials paid tribute to outstanding members of the business, non-profit and education communities at their 2010 Service Awards Dinner on July 20.
Chamber leaders gave The Business Bank the Business of the Year Award, which was accepted by Harold Rauner, the bank’s president and CEO. The chamber honored the bank for its financial strength and commitment to community service, including its annual charity golf tournament.
Keith Turner, senior vice president of development services for West*Group, received the chamber’s Business Person of the Year Award. In addition to successfully reorganizing the company’s human-resources and administrative departments and developing a new comprehensive benefits program for employees, Turner directs West*Group’s charitable contributions and participates on many community boards.
Jeremy Rusnock, owner of Jeremy Rusnock Photography and president of Virtual Laboratories Inc., won the chamber’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Besides his photography and digital-design work, Rusnock serves as the chamber’s technology chairman and publishes the group’s annual business directory.
The chamber gave its New Member of the Year Award to Ameriprise Financial, Office of Conway Halsall. The award, accepted by business development manager Bridget Halsall, honored the company for helping owners of small businesses run and grow their companies.
Daniel Shaw, a certified public accountant, received the chamber’s Citizen of the Year Award. Shaw is active with the chamber’s non-profit committee, runs a Christian businessmen’s group, is an active church member and coaches girls’ softball.
Alternative House received the chamber’s Non-Profit of the Year Award, which was accepted by executive director Judith Dittman. Alternative House provides an emergency shelter for homeless, runaway and abused teenagers; after-school programs at several Fairfax County locations; a teen center in Culmore; and a transitional-living program for teenage mothers and their babies.
Sandy Andrews, who has been a counselor at Flint Hill Elementary School since 1991, received the chamber’s Educator of the Year Award. Andrews is active with the school’s mentoring program, student-government organization and human-relations committee, as well as the Vienna Madison Community Coalition.
Air Treatment Co. received the chamber’s Lifetime Service Award. The award was accepted by Mary Kay Claus on behalf of company president Kathryn Whitecotton. The company regularly sponsors local events, and long has been associated with the Food for Others charity.
The chamber’s Chairman’s Award went to Edward Gloninger, who specializes in publishing, graphic design, marketing and Web development. Gloninger wrote the online copy for the chamber’s new Web site, designed printed material for the group’s inaugural trade show and contributed artwork, posters and a logo design for Casino Night 2010.
