For enabling faster resource deployment during emergency response, the Fairfax County government has received the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) “Best of NIEM” Award from the Department of Homeland Security.

CAD2CAD, the enhanced system for regional computer-aided dispatch (CAD), allows sharing of data and dispatch status among 9-1-1 call centers Arlington and Fairfax counties and the cities of Alexandria and Fairfax.

Dispatchers now can view the real-time status of fire units and request resources from one another, which happens more than 40 times per day.

Since going live in February 2010, the enhanced system has decreased emergency response time up to 50 percent across the participating jurisdictions.
